Encore Offerings for Current 6th and 7th Grade Students
Today, we are opening the link for you to select your student’s Encore class choices for the 2019-2020 school year.
Follow the below link, which will take you to an electronic form where it lists the variation of pairings that your student can elect to take (i.e. an encore class, band, choir, or Spanish). Please take a moment to speak to your student about his/her preference, and complete and submit the form. Please note: if your student does elect to take our Encore class offerings, these classes are assigned based on class availability, not by student/parent request.
For all current 6th grade families.
For those who express interest in taking Spanish, PLEASE READ: For your information, students that successfully complete two years of Spanish at the middle school level, will receive high school credit. Before finalizing this process, it is very important for us to help our students and his/her parents understand that this course will be taught as a high school level class. All the assessments will be the same as those used at the high school. If your child commits to taking Spanish for high school credit in 8th grade after his/her 7th grade year, his/her grade will be calculated in his/her high school GPA. If your child elects to drop Spanish after committing to take it as a high school credit, they will receive an “Withdrawn” on his/her transcripts until the class is successfully passed in high school. We believe that students that have established good study habits, homework completion, and excellent grades will have the skills to be successful. If your child is currently struggling with maintaining good grades, have yet to establish consistent study habits, and are inconsistent with turning assignment in on time, we would suggest that they wait to take Spanish until their freshman year in high school. For all current 7th grade families.
For those who took Spanish as a 7th grader or expressed interest in taking Spanish, PLEASE READ: If your student did not take Spanish this current year as a 7th grader, he/she will not be able to take it in 8th grade. As a reminder, students that successfully complete two years of Spanish at the middle school level, will receive high school credit. All the assessments are the same as those used at the high school, and his/her grade will be calculated into his/her high school GPA after completing 8th grade. If your child elects to drop Spanish after committing to take it as a high school credit, he/she will receive a “Withdrawn” on his/her transcripts until the class is successfully passed in high school. Indian Trail believes that students that have established good study habits, homework completion, and excellent grades will have the skills to be successful. If your child struggled with maintaining good grades last year especially with Spanish class, has yet to establish consistent study habits, and is inconsistent with turning assignments in on time, we would suggest that maybe they choose another Encore offering and restart Spanish as a freshman. ALSO, for students who are currently receiving or show signs of needing extra support in the form of an LA Lab or Math Lab class, your student may be placed in a lab class in lieu of one of his/her Encore choices. In situations of removing a student from band/choir/Spanish, the Indian Trail administration will contact you to help you with that decision.
Please complete this form no later than December 21st (last day before break). Also, the form mentions fees concerning band or choir. This is merely meant to inform you, so please refrain from sending payments for next year.
